Entering week six...and excited about that!!

Last night Hunter posted some new photos on the site. We had been a little too busy to keep up with getting our hundreds of photos downloaded!! It is amazing how many pictures there are of this guy and he is only over five weeks old. As he is growing, things seem to be getting a bit easier and settling into more of a routine. He is one little muscle of a baby now (hunter calls him a little sausage) and is over 10lbs. I encourage him to gain the weight to help him be healthy and sleep more but it does wear me out having to feed him so much! I think he is starting to sleep more and sleep in a more predictable pattern which is very nice. He still eats about every 3 hours in the night but every now and again we get a 4 hour break. And, thanks to his Nana for staying up and feeding him at 1am friday and saturday night this weekend. That let old mom get some extra sleep!!

We took our first out of town trip with Wake to columbia this weekend. It is amazing how much stuff you have to load up for something that weighs 10 lbs.!! We got to meet up with baby Lily Livingston who is 2.5 weeks old now. We really loved getting to see her, chris, and lisa. She is a little doll with more blond hair than I have ever seen. We also got to see Miss Lilah who has grown up so much and is becoming such a big, pretty girl. It is so much fun to see all our friends as parents and get the babies together. It will be so much fun as they get older. From the photos posted you can also see that Wake got to meet his great grandfather, great aunts and cousin erin. He just had a busy, busy weekend.

Life is different now and certainly revolves around Mr. Wake. But, we are having a good time and love watching him grow. There just is nothing as sweet as watching a little baby sleep. They make the cutest faces in their sleep and that is enough to put a smile on any face. We are looking forward to each new daily adventure as we continue to tackle parenthood...

Wake meeting the extendedSigmon family for the first time.

Here is a true Collage/representation of our lives these days...a lot of fun and a lot of parenting.

On the weekends we hang in our Hawaiian shirts and take a dip. Did I mention this is Wake's first time swiming?

Normally, I try to group the pictures....This time you get a collage. This is a mix of Wake's first bath, his first visit with his cousin, Charles, and just a good ol' nap (he gets plenty of them...Mom and dad are envious).

So who do you think he looks like?

Here's to the sweetest boy and the Sweetest wife in the world!

life three weeks in

Wake is now over three weeks old. Things are beginning to seem a bit more manageable. Being a parent is getting a little easier, although it is by no means easy! My sister Ashely and my niece and nephew came to visit Wake during the week for one night. Meg helped keep Wake busy and even Charles held and fed the baby! He really loves being around his cousins. I then called on my wonderful parents to come and help me again this weekend as I was feeling a bit drained (and the fridge was empty!). It doesnt take much to get Nana to come and rock the baby! Hunter and I were able to get out and run some errands and even go to a friends house for a couple of hours (until I was too tired and had to come home at 9:30!). Having help is wonderful and there is no amount of thanks you can give for it!

Last week Wake went to the doctor to get weighed to make sure that my breastfeeding is plumping him up accordingly. He had gained 1.5 lbs. and the doctor was really pleased. He is now 8lb. 8oz., and hopefully continuing to put on the weight! He never misses a feeding and loves to drink...he really does have a drinking problem! He will go to the doctor again for his one month visit on Monday. This week he has started to really lift his head on his own, engage in eye contact, make new cries, make some coos, and all around be a bit more attentive. Attentive is good.

Me, well, I'm on a path to feeling a bit better this week after a not so good last week. Sleep is necessary, new mom or not, and i was not getting any of it! Thankfully we started using bottles and Hunter and other help have been able to take over some of the feedings so I dont have to every 2-3 hours. While breastfeeding is best for baby, it is one hard schedule for mom. Thanks to the inventor of the breast pump! I know that everyone tells me it gets easier as they begin to space their feedings apart...i look forward to those days of space and some sleep at night!

Thru week 2

We have now gotten past week two and are entering week three of mister newborn. I really never thought that a newborn was this much work. Wow, what was I thinking???

We had the Freeman's visit early in the week so Wake got to see his cousins, uncle, and grandparents. Then, my mom came back to help me get some rest for the rest of the week. He got some real quality Nana time (and believe me, I did not want to let her go...but i've got to learn how to do this on my own, since i am a mom and all now!) I may be making a desparate call to her this coming week when i find myself alone again during the day! We also had some local visitors stop in to take a look. We have really appreciated all the love and support that we have had from everyone.

Some of our milestones this week...He has been having a little growth spurt which has caused him to cluster feed in the mornings, get real fussy at night, and then he has been so worn out that he has luckily been sleeping at night between his feedings. I think he has gotten back to birth weight and then some. I don't see how he couldn't be by the amount this little buddha eats! His umblical stump feel off and left him with an official, certified belly button. Other than that...he is still a little baby and has many more cute photo moments, than fussy ones.

fussy face rules

Well...we are one week into our adventure as new parents. this has not been easy (not that anyone ever said it would be). i have had my moments but the face of this baby makes all those not so good moments, sweet moments. nursing takes up a majority of my day. the man likes to drink---i think he has a problem! he rules by his fussy face. i had my mom here helping me out early on but we decided to take a few days alone to acclimate. i am about ready for nana to come back now! i know wake is ready for some nana rocking him to sleep.

as many of you probably know i did try to go thru a natural labor (for about 11 hours) but due to some complications (the reason i actually went to the hospital that morning in the first place) and a baby in distress, my doctor and nurse decided to opt for an emergency c-section. i feel now for all of the moms i know whom have gone thru this surgery, especially when it was not planned and you went thru hours of labor. you want to be up and doing everything you can for this little one but at the same time you have a good deal of pain and emotional discomfort from the entire process. i'm slowly returning from the ordeal and have probably been doing more than i should be. i like to think that i may have some superwoman blood but i know i am simply human.

well...thought i could sit down and write a full post but fussy face is calling me already. this has been a demanding and rewarding week for both hunter and i. i look forward to him getting into a routine as he grows but will miss the innocence of a newborn. will post more photos tomorrow.
